Meet Lidaris at OCLA 8th Symposium 2023
On the 29th of March 2023 Lidaris participates in OCLA – 8th Symposium on Optical Coatings for Laser Applications, which takes place in Jena, Germany. During this event Dr. Justinas Galinis will give a lecture on Common Path Interferometry or How to Measure Absorption Losses on Moving Target?
Symposium OCLA is the annual event, which gathers engineers and scientists working with laser optics, high-end optical coatings, thin film deposition and characterization. It is a great place to meet, learn and discuss the major challenges in the laser optics market. We are happy to share our knowledge and experience in the city of light, Jena. In the symposium Lidaris expert Dr. Justinas Galinis will talk about:
Common Path Interferometry or How to Measure Absorption Losses on Moving Target?
Intense laser irradiation causes strong changes in the refraction index of optics thus leading to a loss of their specified performance. The limit of laser power where beam distortions become significant might be regarded as a “Functional” Laser-Induced Damage Threshold (or F-LIDT). As cumulated heat is the main reason for functional damage thus it is important to characterize absorption losses in thin films to predict the limit of functional damage. In this talk, we show that Photothermal Common-path Interferometry (PCI) technique is a well-suited technique for this task. High sensitivity (up to 0.1 ppm); good temporal and spatial resolution enable advanced testing procedures such as L-scan, T-scan, Time-scan, and 2D Area scans, which reveal much more details on coating properties than was possible up to now. By using PCI technique and pulsed irradiation a direct observation of nonlinear absorptance and their changes in time becomes also possible.
