Each optical element used in high-power laser systems dedicated to space missions should be well-tested and certified on Earth. Failed optical elements can’t be replaced in space. Thus, it causes a risk to the whole space mission. Optics resistance to intense laser irradiation and optics lifetime characterization for space applications is not an easy task.
