Effective laser pulse width
The effective pulse width is used to describe laser pulses featuring not rectangular (in example Gaussian or another irregular) shape in time.
It corresponds to the length of a pulse with the rectangular temporal profile that has the same maximum intensity and energy integrated over the area of the recorded curve.
Effective width can be calculated by the following formula:
Here, Sint – numerically integrated temporal intensity of the pulse. Smax.value – maximum value of the temporal intensity profile. Such calculation reduces the influence of the low intensity parts of the pulse, but is heavily impacted by fluctuations of maximum intensity.
